Job Description

We are seeking a legal assistant or paralegal who is proficient in filing adoptions, legal guardianships, and limited conservatorships. If you have this experience and you are an excellent multitasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with excellent attention to detail and organization skills, and you are looking for a dynamic and supportive law firm with interesting and rewarding cases, we want to hear from you. Responsibilities:
  • Handle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails and phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and letting the team know about upcoming deadlines
  • Accept other administrative tasks as needed to assist the team and ensure the firm runs smoothly
  • Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals
  • Work with attorneys and paralegals to create various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when requested
  • Process client billing properly using daily time records with help from the accounting department
  • Draft and file court documents for adoptions, limited conservatorships, and legal guardianships
  • Prepare engagement agreements and review them with new clients
  • Open and maintain physical and electronic files for clients
  • Request, organize, and save client records
  • Close client files at the end of the representation
  • Draft basic communications and letters
  • Proofread and filed attorney letters and briefs
  • Prepare and file documents with the court
  • Research issues and write legal memos
  • Provide administrative support to our legal team
  • Maintain practice and client confidentiality
Qualifications:
  • Experience with legal software, litigation case management, and docketing programs
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times
  • Candidates should have strong organizational skills and communication skills
  • You have a college degree and/or a paralegal certificate
  • You have experience in drafting and filing adoptions, legal guardianships, and limited conservatorships
  • You are skilled at legal research and writing
  • You are detail-orientated and have excellent organizational skills
  • You are comfortable working with Apple products and computer programs
  • You genuinely care about the team and the clients and want to help them find solutions to their problems
  • You are goal-oriented
  • You are dependable and trustworthy
  • You want to deliver excellent work product every time
  • You are reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain strict confidentiality
